Client Background
FKL is a mid-sized startup in the EdTech and Social Wellbeing space, backed by educators and mental health professionals. Their mission is to provide a safe environment for children to communicate online and a parallel platform for adults to connect, oversee, and guide.
With rising concerns about online safety, FKL wanted to disrupt the messaging space by building a digital wellbeing app that puts child protection first.
The Challenge
Before building FKL, the team identified major gaps in existing platforms:
- No dedicated safe space for kids to communicate without harmful exposure
- Increasing parental and educator concerns about cyberbullying and unsafe interactions
- Lack of moderation tools, guided prompts, or child-friendly designs in mainstream apps
- Needed a balance between security, usability, and scalability to serve both children and adults
